Abstract: The article is addressed to doctors, students, researchers, healthcare organizers, IT specialists who are interested in the history of the development of scientific thought in the field of artificial intelligence and homeopathy in Russia.
Keywords: Korsakov Semen N., history of medicine, homeopathic method, artificial intelligence, Russian Homeopathic Community
Semen Korsakov was a contemporary, associate, and follower of H.F.S.Hahnemann. Exactly he inspired Hahnemann to numbers of revolutionary ideas, gave a huge impetus to the development of Homeopathy. He was in close correspondence with the Master, who appreciated Korsakov and flattered him about his scientific researches. Semen Nikolaevich Korsakov was a hereditary nobleman and served in the state service as a statistical researcher.
Precisely this activity led him to the idea of using statistical processing of large amounts of information for its quick, useful, and effective use. He invented "intellectual (intelligent) machines" for information processing for solving problems of searching, comparing, and classifying information. His idea was: to offer wide use of these machines for everyone, so he didn’t patent his inventions. As a real scientist, who foresaw the future, he wrote: "with the help of ‘intelligent machines’ it will be possible to make discoveries useful in a lot of sciences."
Really Semen Korsakov prompted Samuel Hahnemann to the idea of creating a Repertory for Homeopathic Materia Medica. Subsequently, Benningshausen did it for the first time under the leadership of Hahnemann. Korsakov is the pioneer in the development of artificial intelligence in Science and in Homeopathy.
Most of all in the ‘homeopathic world’ Korsakov is known as the inventor of the method of preparing homeopathic dilutions in one bottle (container). This method is still called Korsakov's Method, and dilutions are called Korsakov's, marked as “K-potencies”. In addition, Korsakov suggested saturating sugar grains with dilutions and storing them dry for a long time. Precisely this idea helped Hahnemann create his Third Method of preparing homeopathic remedies – Scale of LM (Q) Potencies. Also, it made the possibility to keep up the kit, which was used by Hahnemann himself, till present days.
Semen Korsakov cured tens of thousands of sick people during his life, although he was not a medical doctor, but a follower of homeopathy. He treated everyone selflessly and didn’t charge the sick people. He took an active part in the elimination of the cholera epidemic by homeopathic medicines in 1830-32 in Russia.
There were seven children in their family. Everyone received an excellent education. Eldest son Mikhail Korsakov was the Governor-General of Eastern Siberia of the Russian Empire. Many cities in Siberia are named ‘Korsakov's’ after him.
Next year will be the Jubilee of Korsakov, so the Russian Homeopathic Community will prepare a special Conference on January 28-29 next 2022 year in Moscow. And all next year will behold as Korsakov Year. We invite all world homeopathic community to take part in this event kindly, and to organize homeopathic occasions and events under Korsakov’s name during next year!
Trip to Korsakov
Our trip was organized during the celebration of the Day of Russian Homeopathy, held in October. We organized a group bus trip to the places where Semyon Nikolaevich Korsakov lived and worked. As I said, he lived in the village of Tarusovo, Dmitrovsky district, Tver region. His estate was called Trinity -Vyazniki. During the trip, we recalled the achievements, successes, and contributions of Semyon Korsakov to Homeopathy. And his contribution is very significant! This contribution was highly appreciated by himself, Hahnemann. As already mentioned, Korsakov was in close correspondence with Hahnemann.
According to Korsakov's suggested ideas, Hahnemann began using the method of preparing homeopathic dilutions in one bottle (container). This helped in the future to make it easy and available in Homeopathy to prepare super-high homeopathic dilutions, and then to prepare these dilutions by machines. Also, this method of preparing homeopathic dilutions in one container makes it possible to quickly prepare high dilutions of drugs in any conditions, not only in the laboratory. In addition, Korsakov suggested Hahnemann use it for long-term storage of homeopathic dilutions by applying them to sugar grains or globules, drying and storing them in dry form. By the way, this made it possible to preserve the grains, prepared by Hahnemann himself, test them now, and show their effectiveness after 200 years of storage! Also, the preparation and storage of homeopathic dilutions in dry form made it possible for Hahnemann to realize his idea of creating a third scale of dilutions. As you know, this is the scale of LM (Q) potencies. It consists of two preparing phases: liquid and solid. That is, the preparations are prepared by dissolving and dynamizing the dilution in solution, and then applying the dilution to dry piles, from which the dilution is then prepared again. As is known, Hahnemann saturated liquid dilutions with very small sugar granules the size of a poppy seed. It was the idea, that allowed Hahnemann to realize his principle of anti-miasmatic treatment and to realize the original principle, which was written in the first paragraphs of his Organon: "It is necessary to treat gently, reliably and effectively!". It is also known, that Korsakov did a lot of statistical research in the field of processing large amounts of data and created "intellectual intelligent machines". It was the first prototype of modern computers. Korsakov's works allowed Hahnemann to implement another idea. To create the directory of symptoms of Homeopathic Materia Medica. He called this reference book The Repertory and made it into reality in its final form – Benningshausen.
We arrive at the cemetery (graveyard) where the grave of Semen Nikolaevich Korsakov is located. The guide of the local museum, Sergey told us interesting facts from the biography of Semen Korsakov. By the way, in the local Dmitrov Historical Museum, there is a special exhibition of stands dedicated to Semen Korsakov. Sergey said that Korsakov was a very talented and educated man. He speaks in German, English, and French. He corresponded with Hahnemann in French. These letters are kept in the archives of the museum now. Korsakov's list of hobbies included geography, biology, botany, mathematics, medicine, and homeopathy. He was familiar with and hosted many famous people at his estate. He was often visited by writers: Leo Tolstoy, Saltykov-Shchedrin – his neighbor. The Korsakov estate was called Trinity-Vyazniki and it was located on the bank of the river, and on the opposite bank was his village Tarusovo. In the estate, he built a church and in Tarusovo a school for the children of peasants, where they were taught by the whole Korsakov family. Korsakov was very fond of medicine and treated all patients himself, primarily with homeopathy. He first got acquainted with homeopathy when he himself became ill and was cured by the homeopathic drug Berberis. This really impressed him, since the drug was diluted 30 times! After that, he became interested in homeopathy and began to conduct many experiments. As you know, he created his own reproductive system, later called the Korsakov’s system. Korsakov was a very kind and responsible person. He treated his peasants, completely free of charge. He went to the sick patient both day and night, if necessary, and also in any weather. Many patients came or were brought to his home for treatment. For a month, he received at least one hundred and fifty people. In total, he cured more than ten thousand patients. He kept records and records of patients, did an analysis of their condition. Processed statistical data on them. He got up very early in the morning, always worked in the garden and at home. Then he treated sick patients. He did a lot of scientific research, about which he wrote to Hahnemann. In turn, Hahnemann highly appreciated the work of Semyon Korsakov. Thus Hahnemann wrote to him: "Dear sir! I never cease, to admire your tireless energy with which you do all the work!". Then Tarusovo was a famous place for the progressive Russian public - famous writers: Leo Tolstoy, as well as Saltykov-Shchedrin, Ivan Krylov. In addition, former Decembrists – the Norov brothers, the anarchist theorist Bakunin and the famous chemist Dmitry Mendeleev, the creator of the periodic table of chemical elements, often came to him. By the way, she is buried in the same grave as Semyon Korsakov. They had 10 children. The most famous is their eldest son Mikhail Korsakov. He became Governor-General of Eastern Siberia and the Far East. A number of cities in Siberia and the Far East are named after him. He is buried nearby with his father. You saw a memorial plaque, red in color, next to the stone on the grave of Semyon Korsakov. Korsakov himself bequeathed to put a big rick stone on his grave, which is still here. Thanks to this, his burial was not lost in history. In the museum of the district center city Dmitrov, as Sergey said, there is an exposition of stands dedicated to Semyon Korsakov – his life and work. Near his graveyard, there is a church built by the Korsakov family in the 1820s. But it was destroyed in the Soviet years. Currently, Sergey says, our group is engaged in the repair and restoration of the church. The problem is that the church has been declared a state monument of architecture, and no funds have been allocated for its restoration. Only a group of enthusiasts is actively engaged in the repair and restoration of this monument. There are great financial difficulties. But nevertheless, following our efforts, we were able to make the roof–vault of the church building and the bell tower, restore the steeple install the cross, and start the services. Some homeopathic firms (Fitasintex) helped to restore the burial place of Semyon Korsakov in the cemetery. Dr. Kosmodemyansky, our National Vice President for the League, talks about the efforts made earlier by the homeopathic community to restore monuments dedicated to the Korsakov family. So, the stone on the grave was in a very bad condition, there was no fence around the grave. He also noted the contribution of enthusiastic homeopaths in the restoration of monuments dedicated to Korsakov. These are Doctors Patudin and Mishchenko. Dr. Kosmodemyansky made a speech and said that the Russian homeopathic community traditionally travels to the places of Semyon Korsakov's life on the Day of Russian Homeopathy in October. It has become a tradition. We visit his grave and celebrate his contribution to science and homeopathy in memory of his labors achievements and legacy. We believe that the tradition of visiting these places associated with Korsakov is a very good tradition on the Day of Russian Homeopathy. We invite everyone to take part in such trips! Now we are actively restoring Korsakov's legacy. It is planned to build a monument to Semyon Korsakov, restore the church, and then the estate where the family lived. Therefore we call the world homeopathic community with a request for possible assistance in the implementation of these plans. The church was destroyed during the Soviet period. The walls outside and inside the temple are subject to extensive restoration. We are organizing a fundraiser for the repair and restoration of this church. But the service in the church is still going on. A priest arrives and people come to defend the service and remember the founders of this church - the Korsakov family. It will take a lot of effort to recover.
We are leaving the burial place of Semyon Nikolaevich Korsakov by a bridge. This bridge across the river is very symbolic. It seems to connect the past and the future as if it connects the shores.
We say goodbye to Sergey, the museum guide, enthusiast, and activist for the restoration of the temple and monuments Korsakov. He lives near Tarnovo. Saying goodbye to us, he asks for help in this noble work to restore the legacy of Semyon Korsakov.
And we are returning to Moscow and starting preparations for the Moscow International 32nd Homeopathic Conference in January 2022. It will be held on January 28-29 next year at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia. We invite everyone to take part in it. We are holding this conference in honor of Semyon Korsakov's Anniversary. We will hold all events in 2022 under the name of Korsakov. And we call on the entire world homeopathic community to hold all homeopathic events in 2022 under the name of Semyon Korsakov!
